The cause of pain on the left side of the lower abdomen

On the left side of our abdomen, there are several organs and structures so there are many reasons that cause abdominal pain on the left side of the navel. Because women have more organs on this side, putting them at highest risk of having pain in the left abdomen than men. The cause of pain on the left side of the abdomen is most often in the lower left part of the abdomen. Lots of conditions that cause pain in this area.

1. Diverticulitis

Diverticulitis is a common cause of pain in the lower left side of the abdomen, especially in adults younger than 60 years. Abdominal sacs called diverticula develop on the wall of the large intestine and when this part is infected or inflammation caused by dirt trapped in the bag, this is where diverticulitis develops. Conditions like these are very painful and emotional that can last a few hours or continue for a week or more. Other symptoms besides abdominal pain may be like flatulence, chills and fever, nausea and occasional vomiting, constipation or diaper and loss of appetite.

Treatment for diverticulitis varies considerably and depends on the severity of symptoms indicated by the patient. A diet or liquid diet may be recommended for several days, antibiotics may be prescribed and medications such as acetaminophen may be necessary.

2. Constipation

Constipation is one of the most frequent causes of pain in the left side of the abdomen. A diet high in fiber, laxative and stool softeners along with plenty of fluids will help to alleviate the condition.

3. Obstruction of the intestine

Causes cramps, stomach a grip. If the blockage is on the left side, then you will feel the pain on the left side of the navel. Vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, inability to defecate or exhaust, abdominal distension is another symptom of intestinal obstruction. This condition occurs when something prevents the passage of food or fluid through the intestine. This condition may be caused by scarring, diverticulitis, tumor or a hernia. There are various treatments for intestinal obstruction that all require hospitalization.

4. Ectopic pregnancy

When a woman of childbearing age complains of pain on the lower abdominal side, the doctor’s first suspicion may be due to an ectopic pregnancy. This occurs when a fertilized egg is embedded outside the uterus, most often in a fallopian tube. Pain due to ectopic pregnancy can cause bleeding. Many women with this condition often do not realize they are pregnant before symptoms are seen. Treatment for ectopic pregnancy is usually by taking drugs or surgery. The unfortunate thing is, the pregnancy should be terminated to avoid the risk of death.
